Rand Shahin

Please tell us a bit about yourself.

I’ve always been one to never strike a down a challenge, which is how I made it through high school into law school at one of the most prestigious universities in England. Neither one of my parents works in the legal sector, nor extended family members so it’s a nice change.

What motivated you to apply for your course at Leeds?

I’ve always wanted to become a lawyer(cliché I know but it's the truth), and I thought the best way to do it was by going to Leeds University because of its high rankings, and because it’s situated in the loveliest city.

What do you think of your course so far?

Honestly, my course is very challenging, and it’s constant as well. I do not have any particular highlights but I do appreciate the challenges because they drive me out of my comfort zone to overcome them, which helps me grow and realize my potential.

How would you describe the help and guidance provided by the staff?

The whole School is very friendly and very approachable. They genuinely try their best to make you feel like you’re welcome and that you understand the material. Their offices are constantly (when they’re not busy of course) open for anyone to come in with any queries are just have a chat in general.

How would you describe the facilities?

In a few words: they take into account everyone’s needs and demands. There’s not one person or group of people that the University facilities do not cater to. It is rare to find a place that does not leave anyone out, but here it is.

Have you been involved in any extra-curricular activities?

There are so many to choose from, I am not particularly engaged in one specific society. I enjoy attending several events at different societies just so I can have an insight into almost everything. It’s always a good time.
