The Centre for Language and Education Research (CLER) advances research, policy and practice in language education, literacies, linguistic diversity and intercultural communication.

We work with local, national and global partners to research how language shapes educational outcomes, life opportunities, and social participation and how practitioners – including educators, teacher educators, carers and families, NGO workers and arts practitioners – can harness these insights to serve their communities.

Our research investigates:

• how language and education connect to broader challenges of social inequality, access to education, migration, social stigma and digital transformation;
• how language pedagogies, practitioner networks, public services, and co-produced resources can increase people’s access to language and education; and
• how challenging harmful ideas about the language of others through education and arts can transform community relations in places of inequity, division and marginalisation.
