Terrorism and the Law
- Start date: 1 January 2009
- End date: 31 December 2010
- Funder: Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC)
- Primary investigator: Professor Emeritus Clive Walker
The core objective of this research project involves research for, and the writing of, a book, Terrorism and the Law, which has been commissioned by Oxford University Press.
The book will provide an authoritative and comprehensive description and analysis of the relevant laws, legal policies, and practices which impact within the United Kingdom.
This core objective will involve the following research questions:
According to what strategies has the law relating to terrorism been developed, and how far is it consistent with those strategies?
How is the law relating to terrorism affected by factors other than security and risk? Those factors include normative constraints, especially individual rights.
How has the law relating to terrorism been applied in practice - taking account of quantitative statistical data and also information provided by practitioners through interviews?
