Please tell us a bit about yourself.

I am from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire and I am in my first year of study at Leeds. I have an older brother and an older sister and a 5-year-old niece.

What motivated you to apply for your course at Leeds?

I have always wanted to teach and a few years before coming to university I decided that I want to teach English as a foreign language so that I can travel and teach. Choosing English, language and education felt like the best option as it covers how people learn languages, the challenges that they face and why people learn languages as well as discussing teaching methods. I chose Leeds as I love the city and it is a Russel Group university so will help with future career prospects. I also know a few second-year students and they have all said how good a university Leeds is.

What do you think of your course?

I really enjoy my course, I think the highlights have been making friends within my course as is a common ground to bond over. Also, the lectures are mostly interesting and engaging for all of the students in the lecture. We also cover a lot of different topics that link to other fields of work such as sociology which I find really interesting.

How would you describe the help and guidance?

All of the staff are very friendly and provide as much support as they can with assignments and general issues that you may have. Also, there is a very good student support system in place so you always feel that there is someone to talk to when things get difficult.

How would you describe the facilities at the University?

There are a lot of facilities at university and they are all a high standard and quality. All of the facilities are accessible to everyone and they make everyone feel welcome and accepted.

Have you been involved in any extra-curricular activities?

I am involved within the scout and guide society, it is a really good way to make friends and become involved in other activities that you may not have necessarily done if you were not part of a society.

Any other comments you would like to make?

Overall I have really enjoyed my first year of university and look forward to my following years of study. I am very glad that I chose the University of Leeds and the school of education to study in as the support provided by staff is incredible and all the lecturers are friendly and helpful when you have any queries.
