Ellie Boyes

Please tell us a bit about yourself and your background.

I’m Ellie, I’m from a little town called Hartlepool, I’m 20 and I am currently living in Leeds studying BA Childhood Studies at the University of Leeds. I attended school and college in my home town of Hartlepool where I was encouraged to progress on to studying here at the University of Leeds. I love living in Leeds and going to University here as there is so much to do to keep my busy! I have made so many friends here and met so many new people. I am currently in my second year of University and have loved every minute of it! Living away from home has matured me and made me a lot more independent! I have one year left at University before I graduate, the course so far has been fantastic and I’m excited to see what the rest of my time in Leeds has to bring to me.

What motivated you to apply to study your chosen course and why did you chose Leeds?

The reason behind me choosing to come to Leeds to study childhood studies all started in college. I studied Health and Social at college which motivated me to work towards being accepted into Leeds. I really enjoyed the psychology and sociology related topics that I completed on my college course and was really interested in learning about them. I had no idea of what I wanted to study at University but with help from my college tutors I found the Childhood studies course and felt it would really suit me. After researching around the degree and searching for the course at different universities around the country, Leeds was the one that stood out the most. It is a Russell group University and the course sounded fantastic and included everything I was looking for.

What do you think of your course, have there been any particular highlights for you?

I really enjoy my course, all modules are something new to me and are really interesting. Our tutors and lecturers are very helpful and give any guidance you need. I most enjoy the child psychology modules as I am interested in the field of child development and language acquisition.

How would you describe the help and guidance provided by the staff within the School?

My lecturers and tutors are always at hand if I need any help or guidance with anything. They are very quick at responding to emails and will always work around times that you are free if you need to meet up with them. They keep on top of work and lectures and lecture slides and PowerPoint are always available in advance to look at.

How would you describe the facilities at the University?

The facilities here at the University of Leeds are great! Books and any additional recourses you may need to help complete assignments are readily available. The new Laidlaw library is fantastic and has everything you need, its very modern and the study spaces are fantastic. Lecture and seminar room are of a high standard and have everything you need.
