Profile
I joined POLIS in 2013 after completing my PhD at the University of Melbourne in 2012. I also have an MA in Politics from Melbourne and a BA(Hons) in Politics and Anthropology from Victoria University of Wellington. I have lived in Shanghai and in Beijing and I speak and read Chinese. My language training was at Fudan University in Shanghai.
Research interests
I research China’s international relations with a primary focus on non-material areas of international security, such as culture, values and ideology. I am particularly interested in understanding how the Chinese Communist Party attempts to manage the globalisation of information and ideas in order to achieve its international and domestic security objectives.
Qualifications
- PhD International Relations (University of Melbourne)
- MA Political Science (University of Melbourne)
- BA (Hons) Political Science and Anthropology (Victoria University of Wellington)
Student education
I teach modules on China's domestic politics and international relations at both the undergraduate and MA level.
