‘Asset Stripping: Responses to the Financing of Terrorism and Crime’ Workshops

Asset-Stripping: Responses to the Financing of Terrorism and Crime was a two day event held at the University of Notre Dame: London Law Centre.

On 14 – 15 May a second event in the AHRC funded ‘Dirty Assets’ workshop series was held at University of Notre Dame: London Law Centre.

‘Asset-Stripping: Responses to the Financing of Terrorism and Crime’ was a two day event organised in collaboration with Emeritus Professor Clive Walker, from the School of Law, University of Leeds, Dr Colin King, Sussex University Law School, and Professor Jimmy Gurule, University of Notre Dame Law School, USA.

In line with the main theme of day two of the event, on counter terrorism financing, Professor Walker presented a paper on 'Civil law approaches to counter terrorism financing in the UK', which related to regulatory approaches and civil litigation.

The event was attended by 65 delegates who represented a stimulating cross-section of academics, practitioners, and policy activists. The interaction between practitioners, policymakers, and researchers added a great deal of value to the event. The other speakers included leading officers from the Home Office and the CPS, as well as academics and policy analysts.

There was also a strong international representation from the USA, with eminent speakers also from the Netherlands, Italy, and Malaysia. It is intended to follow up the event with a publication and also to hold another event abroad some time later this year with a focus on comparative and international perspectives
