Durdona Karimova reflects on her experiences presenting doctoral research at the British Association for Applied Linguistics (BAAL) conference 2026
PhD researcher Durdona Karimova from the School of Education presented doctoral research at the British Association for Applied Linguistics (BAAL) Testing, Evaluation and Assessment Special Interest Group (TEASIG) Conference 2026, held at the University of Glasgow on 14 May 2026.
The paper, titled “Beyond Language Proficiency: Barriers, AI Support, and Scholarly Writing among Uzbek EFL Teachers,” shared emerging findings from doctoral research exploring the challenges and support mechanisms shaping scholarly writing practices among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers in Uzbekistan.
In addition, a poster presentation entitled “Learning to Publish by Publishing: Academic Development through a Student-Led Journal of Hillary Place Papers” reflected on professional and academic development gained through participation as a reviewer for Hillary Place Papers, the student-led journal of the School of Education at the University of Leeds.
Presenting at the BAAL TEASIG Conference 2026 was a valuable opportunity to share emerging findings from my doctoral research and engage with researchers working across applied linguistics and language assessment. I am especially grateful to the School of Education at the University of Leeds for supporting my conference participation and for encouraging the promotion of Hillary Place Papers as a space for student-led academic development.
