Please tell us a bit about yourself.

I am an ambitious young professional and hold over three years of professional experience in international private and public-sector institutions. I aspire to work in the field of public and private-sector engagement and therefore wished to complement my academic background with international legal perspectives of policy-making. I am from Germany and have a diverse and multicultural family background. I am passionate about traveling and getting to know people from different countries and cultures.

What motivated you to apply for your course at Leeds?

I applied to the University of Leeds since I was searching for an institution which would enable me to pursue my advanced academic degree in an international environment. In my search for a university which would represent this openness and atmosphere of community, I found the University of Leeds to be incorporating all characteristics that I was searching for. Furthermore, I highly appreciate the flexibility and wide range of available options for choosing the modules which I study. 

What do you think of your course so far?

I highly enjoy the fact that I could personalise my course according to my academic and professional aspirations and choose subjects that are of interest and relevance to me. Insightful group discussions in seminars not only enable me to learn from academic experts and from my peers, but also to express my own views and share experiences.

What would you say about the learning facilities?

The University of Leeds offers great learning facilities. The equipment is modern and there is a range of different libraries and academic literature. Furthermore, the School of Law regularly hosts expert talks, networking opportunities and exciting workshops. I have found the professors to be helpful and approachable.

How do you find the student support?

The School of Law has a good student support. Students are also assigned a personal tutor who will regularly meet with the students to discuss general well-being and any arising difficulties or topics of interest. I have found this tutor scheme to be very helpful and it has clearly demonstrated to me that student well-being as well as individual academic performance is at the top agenda of the School.

Have you been involved in any extra-curricular activities?

The University of Leeds offers a very wide range of clubs, societies and activities. Most are accessible through the Student Union. I have participated in several daytrips where I had the opportunity to travel to different cities and explore new locations with students from different faculties and disciplines.

What would you say about Leeds as a city?

Leeds is a great city and a hub for students from all over the world. It offers all necessary facilities of a big city alongside beautiful nature. It is also very well linked to other cities within the country which makes travelling very convenient. Since this vibrant city hosts so many students, there are many activities and events tailored specifically for them.

What would you say to anyone thinking of applying to your course?

I would highly recommend the LLM course in International Law as it is conceptualised in such a way that it not only highlights underlying traditional legal principles but also sheds light on modern-day developments and issues which demonstrate the relevancy of the topics discussed. The possibility to choose the modules individually ensures that the content you learn is relevant to your aspirations and interests. Overall, I have found this course to be academically stimulating and positively challenging.
