Dr Paul Wragg discusses the recent high-profile privacy action brought by Sir Cliff Richard v BBC
In a podcast for IMPRESS, the press regulator, Dr Paul Wragg, an expert in press freedom, discusses the recent high-profile privacy action brought by Sir Cliff Richard v BBC.
Dr Wragg has courted controversy by claiming the decision to penalise the BBC for broadcasting a police raid on the pop singer’s home was not an unjustifiable invasion of privacy.
He was interviewed by the Independent, the Daily Express, and the Daily Telegraph, and appeared on BBC Radio Leeds. He has since published his views on the leading media law blog Inforrm.
Dr Wragg is currently writing a monograph on press regulation for Hart Publishing, which will be published in early 2020.
He is also part of a major AHRC funded project – Defining Freedom of the Press – which will examine how ‘news-work’ is affected by ethics codes and regulatory environments so as to better define the scope of ‘freedom of the press’ outside of its traditional parameters. It will also examine how those who consume the press or are affected by it, understand and rationalise the concept of freedom of the press.
