Professor Peter Whelan delivers a guest lecture at Pázmány Péter Catholic University in Budapest

The lecture was delivered in front of a select group of competition law experts, which included competition authority officials, practitioners and leading academics in Hungary.

It focused on the optimal enforcement of cartels, how an optimal cartel fine should be constructed and what enforcement measures should be in place to complement cartel fines on corporations. In particular, it examined the role that criminal cartel sanctions can have in this context.

The lecture lasted for 50 minutes and was followed by a roundtable discussion with a select group of Hungarian competition experts for 40 minutes.

Professor Whelan is currently writing a monograph on the topic of parental liability for competition law violations, which will be published in due course by Oxford University Press.
