Dr David Churchill and Dr Miranda Clow deliver public engagement events on the history of security in collaboration with the London Metropolitan Archives
The Arts and Humanities Research Council funds outstanding original research across the whole range of the arts and humanities.
As part of their Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) research project on the history of security and the security industry, School of Law Associate Professor in Criminal Justice Dr David Churchill (Co-Director, Centre for Criminal Justice Studies) and Research Assistant Dr Miranda Clow are delivering three public engagement events on various aspects of security in collaboration with the London Metropolitan Archives (a partner on the AHRC project).
The first event took place on Wednesday 9 June and was a book club session on Goldfinger, the James Bond novel, seen particularly through the lens of security. The second (Wednesday 22 June) is a film screening session, which shows archive film material relating to private security and security companies. The third (Friday 8 July) is a document viewing session featuring some key documents from the Chubb & Son archive. All these events are presented by Dr Churchill and/or Dr Clow and include showings of relevant documents from the archive.
Dr Churchill said “We're really looking forward to delivering these events at the London Metropolitan Archives. It has been a real privilege to work with their extensive archival collections related to the history of security and the security industry and we are excited to share some of the highlights of this material with members of the public through these three events”.
