School of Law academic Dr Paolo Sandro awarded prestigious Academic Parliamentary Fellowship

These fellowships provide researchers with a key opportunity to influence Parliament.

Dr Sandro, Associate Professor of Public Law and Legal Theory, is supported by Policy Support Fund and the School of Law to take up this position.

The fellowship affords a unique opportunity for a public law scholar to contribute directly to parliamentary work; bridging the gap between research and practice, and expanding policy networks.

These prestigious positions are offered in very limited numbers and are highly competitive as a result. The School of Law is extremely proud of Dr Sandro’s success in securing this fellowship.

Our Head of School says:

Fellowships are a key way that research and researchers can impact Parliament. I am both delighted and proud that Dr Sandro has received this prestigious fellowship award.

Professor Louise Ellison

Starting in September 2024, Dr Sandro will be working part-time for Parliament for one year as an expert in Constitutional Law. Among the key objectives of the fellowship are:

  • Bringing expertise into parliamentary teams;
  • Informing parliamentary scrutiny;
  • Analysing and evaluating parliamentary practices;
  • Helping to grow Parliament's academic networks;

Dr Sandro says of this opportunity:

I'm really excited to embark on this Parliamentary Academic Fellowship and to work with colleagues in the Knowledge Exchange Unit in the Parliamentary Office for Science and Technology (POST). What I look forward the most is to learn first-hand all the hard work that goes behind the scenes of a complex institution like the UK Parliament and to put my research expertise at the disposal of colleagues in Parliamentary Offices and Members of Parliament alike. I'm very grateful to Policy Support Fund and the School of Law at the University of Leeds for providing me with the necessary support to undertake this fellowship
