Dr Judith Hanks features on podcast discussing Exploratory Practice research

In the podcast Dr Judith Hanks, Associate Professor in Language Education, talks to Laura Richards, Teaching Fellow in the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies, about Exploratory Practice.

Laura Richards begins by asking how Dr Hanks first became involved in Exploratory Practice. Together they talk about the underlying philosophy of Exploratory Practice, a form of “Fully Inclusive Practitioner Research”.

They discuss: What's the difference between a puzzle and a problem? Why is “curiosity, puzzling, and working-for-understanding” so important? Why is the idea of co-production, in which learners as well as teachers investigate their puzzled questions about language learning and teaching, a radical step? What have learners and teachers done in their Exploratory Practice work in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and in Higher Education?

They conclude by discussing “what is good research?” and suggest a more egalitarian approach to co-production in research, with some advice for students who might want to try Exploratory Practice during (and after) the Covid-19 pandemic.
