Round table discussion on English-medium instruction in Indonesia
The round table discussion, held at the Ministry of Education in Indonesia's capital city, Jakarta, focused on the state of English-medium instruction.
Senior Lecturer Martin Lamb, Honorary Research Fellow Hywel Coleman and Lecturer in TESOL Harry Kuchah are all currently involved in a British Council-funded project investigating the state of English-medium instruction in Indonesian universities and colleges.
Having generated and analysed their data, they presented their interim findings at a Round Table Discussion at the Ministry of Education in Jakarta.
The event was attended by a number of ministry officials and university leaders and involved some lively discussion about the merits and demerits of English displacing the national language Bahasa Indonesia in various higher education contexts in the country.
The final report is due in April when the British Council will present it to interested stakeholders during a Ramadhan ‘fast-breaking’ event.
