Please tell us a bit about yourself.

I am from the Greek part of Cyprus and my dream was to become a theatre performer and study theatre. In 2013 I got my bachelors degree in Drama from the University of Essex. In 2015 I graduated from a two year course of Master of Fine Art in Acting International at East15 Acting School in London. During the Summer, Easter and Christmas holidays I teach theatre to adults (ages 17+) who want to pass acting/drama auditions in the UK or Greece.

What motivated you to apply to study your chosen course and why did you chose Leeds?

After finishing my Drama (BA) and (MFA) in Acting, I knew that something was missing from my studies. I have always wanted to educate children and help them develop through theatre and drama activities. However, that was not enough. Language was a big part of my childhood. I learnt Greek and English at the same time and found it difficult to learn in a classroom environment. Therefore, I would love to teach a language with a physical approach using drama games.

I was happy to learn that Leeds has a course that combined English language and education together. I knew right away that the university’s high standards would leave me satisfied in fulfilling my goal. Also, Leeds has a big city centre, but at the same time you can connect with nature since parks and rural areas are near the centre.

What do you think of your course?

The course is really powerful and equally expands on both educational and language aspects. It enables you to create a critical thinking and freely gain your own voice.

How would you describe the help and guidance provided by the staff within the School?

The staff are extremely helpful. They always want to make sure that all students are able to succeed and won’t fail at any essay or exam.

How would you describe the facilities at the University?

Amazing facilities on the campus. The classes are spacious and not hard to find. It is nice that you can have a lesson in a classical building such as Parkinson with a vast culture and history behind it, however your class is modern.

Have you had the opportunity to study abroad, or complete a year in industry?

It has been six years that I am studying abroad. I studied in University of Essex, then I moved to London for my Master degree and now I am in Leeds. So far Leeds, is the best location I have been in the UK. I am really happy and grateful to be able to live in this city.

Have you been involved in extra-curricular activities?

I am a member of the belly dance society.

Any other comments you would like to make?

So far I have been really satisfied with the Library facilities. They are really spacious and the distance between them is not big, so you can move around easily to find the information you want.
