Dr. Stuart Wallace

Profile

I was awarded an LLB in Law and European Studies by the University of Limerick, Ireland. I received an LLM in International Human Rights Law (with distinction) from the Irish Centre for Human Rights at the National University of Ireland, Galway. After completing my LLM, I worked as an intern at the European Court of Human Rights and the International Criminal Court. I received a scholarship to pursue doctoral studies at the University of Nottingham and was awarded a PhD in Law by the University of Nottingham in 2014.

I have taught law at several Russell Group Universities before joining the University of Leeds. I began teaching law in 2012 at the University of Nottingham where I taught European Union Law and European Convention on Human Rights Law. In 2016, I joined the law faculty at the University of Cambridge. I was a fellow at Homerton College, University of Cambridge where I served as a Lecturer in Law and Director of Studies teaching Human Rights Law, Constitutional Law, EU Law and Criminal Law. I joined the School of Law at the University of Leeds in 2019.

My research interests lie in the field of International Human Rights Law and Public International Law. The primary focus of my research has been on the application of human rights law to military operations and my book ‘The Application of the European Convention on Human Rights to Military Operations’ was published by Cambridge University Press in 2019.

After completing my PhD, I became a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Nottingham where I worked on the FRAME project, which examined the implementation of human rights law in European Union policies. This project was one of the largest projects ever funded by the European Union in the social sciences.
