Research interests
My interdisciplinary research works at the interface between International Relations, Security Studies, and Genocide Studies. I am the recipient of awards from the Economic and Social Research Council, International Studies Association, and the White Rose Doctoral Training Partnership.
In January 2021 I started a 2.5 year project ‘Explaining Non-State Armed Groups Perpetrating Mass Atrocities’ with Kaisa Hinkkainen (University of York) which is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (£500,000).
In my Professional Service to Government, I have acted as an Expert Oral Witness at the UK House of Lords as well as the Defence Select Committee at the House of Commons. I have also submitted written evidence to the UK Foreign Affairs Committee regarding inquiries into the mass violence in Iraq, Syria, Myanmar, Libya and China.

Student education
I became a university lecturer to teach and inspire students of all ages and from all backgrounds. I encourage students to become active independent learners that engage with timely and important debates in International Relations. My teaching is heavily informed by my research on International Relations Theory and the Responsibility to Protect and am always happy to discuss modules, careers, and university life in general.
I have won two awards from the students, Inspirational Teaching Award (2016) and Best Feedback Award (2017).
I also hold a University of Leeds Teaching Award, Professional Standard 2, ULTA 2, Pass with Merit.
