BJPIR celebrates rise in impact factor and 25th anniversary

Influential politics and international relations research journal celebrates both its 25th anniversary and a significant rise in its impact factor.
The School of Politics and International Studies (POLIS) at the University of Leeds is proud to announce a significant achievement for The British Journal of Politics and International Relations (BJPIR), which has seen its impact factor rise to 3.4, according to the latest Clarivate rankings.
This increase places BJPIR 14th out of 169 journals in the field of International Relations and 36th out of 322 in Political Science, firmly establishing it in the top quartile of both disciplines. Hosted by POLIS and published in partnership with the Political Studies Association (PSA) and SAGE Publishing, BJPIR continues to be a leading platform for innovative and influential research.
Professor Jack Holland, co-editor of BJPIR, commented:
As the Editors of BJPIR we are delighted with the journal’s new impact factor, which reflects our committed to publishing cutting-edge research at the frontier of politics and international relations. Addressing the politics of global challenges remains paramount in today’s turbulent era and we are pleased to have supported work in a range of vital areas, including on climate change, health security, and conflict. Research on populism has been particularly well cited, and our new impact factor coincides with the release of a celebratory special issue marking the journal’s 25th anniversary.
This milestone reflects the dedication of the editorial team, contributors, and reviewers, and highlights BJPIR’s ongoing commitment to advancing scholarship that addresses the most pressing political issues of our time.
POLIS extends its congratulations to everyone involved in this outstanding achievement.
What is the BJPIR?
The British Journal of Politics and International Relations is an international journal that publishes peer-reviewed, cutting-edge scholarship across the full breadth of the fields of politics and international relations, including comparative politics, political economy, political theory, and public policy. As a flagship journal of the UK’s Political Studies Association, the BJPIR is the world’s premier outlet for research on British politics.
The journal has been housed in POLIS since 2021 and is edited by a team of six editors from the School: Derek Edyvane, Kingsley Edney, Richard Hayton, Jack Holland, Victoria Honeyman, and Viktoria Spaiser. The breadth and depth of this editorial team reflects the strength of research across the School and its research centres, including the Centre for Democratic Politics (CDP); Centre for Global Security Challenges (CGSC); and Centre for Contemporary Political Theory (CCPT).
POLIS congratulates the editorial team, contributors, and reviewers whose dedication and scholarship have made this achievement possible.
