Faculty of Social Sciences celebrate success at Leeds Partnership Awards
The Leeds Partnership Awards are held annually to celebrate the hard work of staff, postgraduate researchers and students who truly put into practice and personify the values of the Leeds Partnership.
Over 2000 nominations were submitted in total to the panel who decided the overall University winners. The ceremony took place online on Wednesday 5 May and winners were announced on the Leeds University Union Twitter channel throughout the afternoon.
The Faculty of Social Sciences are incredibly proud of all the students and staff who were nominated and are delighted to be able to offer congratulations to the members of the Faculty who have won awards.
Jian ‘Franks’ Feng (SSP student) won the Global Award which celebrates staff, students or groups who work with a global focus. It aims to recognise excellence amongst those who have actively engaged in the promotion and maintenance of international or intercultural activities, education or competence. It also recognises those who are involved in the internationalisation of the University or Leeds University Union, formally or otherwise.
The Innovation Award, won by Niamh Byrne (Community Engagement Activities Co-ordinator, School of Law), celebrates a person or group who uses innovative methods and approaches to engage and excite others. This may be through embracing new technology, developing new and innovative ways to enhance the student experience, or presenting challenging ideas in a way that sparks discussion and further understanding.
Dr Suzanne Young (Associate Professor in Criminal Justice, School of Law) won the Positive Impact Award which recognises the person who has made an exceptional difference to others’ experiences through an outstanding contribution to their school, faculty, department or service, or who has worked hard to make individuals’ experiences better.
Student run group, Women Breaking Barriers, received a Special Commendation for their contribution to equality and inclusion in the Positive Impact category.
The Overall Partnership Award celebrates those who work with great drive and vision to make Leeds the exceptional institution that we celebrate in these Awards. There were three winners within this category. The Group Award was won by the Faculty Student Support Team comprising of Max Broady, Rachel Walton, Jill Harrison, Anna Nixon, Nicholas Marsh, James Johnston and Joel Lawson. Janet Tokitsu Tizon (UG POLIS student) was awarded with the Student Award.
