The Global Political Economy group at the University of Leeds is delighted to invite you to the workshop ‘The Capitalism to Come? Oligarchy, Violence and New Imperialisms’.

When: 15 May 2025

Where: Room 1.33-1.34, Psychology Building and online

Speakers will present fresh thinking on the current neoliberal conjuncture, exploring the rise of oligarchic capitalism, and how it relates to the intensifications and mutations of neoliberalism, authoritarianism, proto-fascism and the new state capitalism. Speakers will offer cutting-edge reexaminations of the past and present of oligarchic capitalism, market governance, neoliberal and libertarian thought, authoritarian practices, imperialism and more. From the rise of oligarchy in the West to the imposition of green extractivism in the Middle East through old and new imperialisms, the workshop will propose a unique mix of perspectives from early-career researchers as well as established scholars, and promises to be of interest to many in Politics, International Relations and beyond.

You can find the workshop schedule with all the relevant information attached, and register on Eventbrite here.
