On 4 November, CCPT is convening a pre-read research seminar on Maša Mrovlje’s new co-authored paper, titled Theorising Feminist Civil Disobedience with Black Lives Matter. All welcome!
The paper’s abstract is attached below:
Several political theorists argue that studying civil disobedience movements leads to a theory of civil disobedience that, in contrast to Rawls’ conception, is less abstract and strict. While these “phenomenological” scholars use an illuminating methodology, they have largely failed to extend it to include women’s activism within civil disobedience movements. We argue that centering on women’s activism within civil disobedience pushes the theory of civil disobedience in new, feminist directions. We clarify three main contours of a feminist conception of civil disobedience by examining women’s activism in the Movement for Black Lives, 2013-2018.
