Cultural Genocide: Unpacking a Contested Concept

The European Centre for the Responsibility to Protect (ECR2P) will welcome Professor Uğur Üngör to speak on the contested concept of cultural genocide.

Professor Uğur Ümit Üngör is Professor of Holocaust and Genocide Studies at the NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies in Amsterdam. He will give a 45-60 minute virtual talk, followed by questions and answers.

The talk will take place online from 17:00 - 18:30 (GMT). Registered attendees will receive the link and login details to attend the online event.

Speaker biography

Professor Uğur Ümit Üngör is Professor of Holocaust and Genocide Studies at the NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies in Amsterdam. He has published widely on mass violence and has received awards such as the Heineken Young Scientist Award by the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences and the Keetje Hodshon Prize from the Royal Netherlands Society of Sciences and Humanities. His most recent monograph, Paramilitarism: Mass Violence in the Shadow of the State was published by Oxford University Press in 2020. He is an editor of the Journal of Perpetrator Research and coordinator of the Syrian Oral History Project.
