New mobility grant secured by PhD student Gergely Kajos: Upcoming visiting scholarship in Australia

Gergely Kajos, a second-year doctoral student in the School of Education has secured a grant to visit a top university in Australia.

Gergely will visit the School of Education and Social Work at the University of Sydney for three months to continue working on his thesis about academic writing development. During his visit he will be hosted and supervised by Professor Aek Phakiti, an internationally recognised leading scholar in language testing and assessment. During the visiting scholarship, Gergely will not only work on his data analysis but aim to build scholarly connections within the local PhD student and early career researcher community.

This visiting scholarship is funded by the UK Government’s Turing Scheme and the University of Leeds. The Turing Scheme supports postgraduate researcher mobility in order to develop their skills, grow their academic networks and enhance their future employability.

Having completed a visiting scholarship in New Zealand during my first year, I can see the value of such opportunities for PhD students’ personal and professional development. These visits not only are an exciting adventure but can strengthen our research while helping us become better researchers. I’m honoured to have secured this grant again and look forward to this experience immensely.
