Professor Chrissi Nerantzi delivers the 10th Faculty Inaugural Lecture
The faculty was delighted to host Professor Nerantzi's lecture in celebration of her impressive research and scholarship contributions.
On Thursday 6 November, Professor Chrissi Nerantzi delivered the 10th Faculty of Social Sciences Inaugural Lecture – a series which began in October 2024 to celebrate the achievement of colleagues who have been promoted to or apppointed at the rank of Professor.

Chrissi Nerantzi (NTF, CATE, PFHEA) is Professor of Creative and Open Education in the School of Education and Senior Lead of the Knowledge Equity Network at the University of Leeds, UK. She is co-chair of the ICDE Open Education Network and founder of the international, award-winning Creativity for Learning (#creativeHE) community. Chrissi is also a global accreditor for Advance HE and an international member of the Open Education Advisory Group of the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education at the Higher Education Authority in Ireland. She is a GO-GN alumna and an internationally recognised scholar in creative and open education, with a career spanning roles as teacher, programmer, translator, academic developer, and education innovator.

Chrissi delivered her lecture, “In the uncomfort zone” to an audience of colleagues, students, family and friends.
The lecture considered the teaching and learning potentialities for educators and students of embracing one’s personal “uncomfort zones”.

An interactive lecture, audience members were encouraged to participate in discussion throughout, as Chrissi asked them to make new connections with others, consider learning possibilities of artificial intelligence in the classroom, and engage with her creative practices as an educator.
The lecture was also followed by a Q&A session, and finally by a drinks reception.

The eleventh Faculty of Social Sciences Inaugural Lecture will be delivered by the School of Law’s Professor Alex Nicholson at 5pm on Thursday 4 December 2025.
