ESRC Seminar Series: Anti-Social Behaviour, Urban Spaces and the Night-time Economy

This third seminar in the ESRC 'Governing through Anti-social Behaviour' series considered the regulation of ASB in public and quasi-public spaces both during the day and night-time economies.

It explored the geographies of exclusion in the gentrification and purification of space in the context of a culture of anxiety and fear.

In particular, it focused upon the policing of disorder-related problems associated with prostitution, drug use and alcohol consumption.

It specifically considered the use and implications of dispersal orders and designated public places orders, as well as the role of Business Improvement Districts and proposed Alcohol Disorder Zones in regulating urban spaces.
