Social justice in the shadow of Grenfell

The scenes from the Grenfell Tower fire on Wednesday 14 June 2017 shocked, troubled and angered many of us.

The fire caused over 80 deaths, many serious injuries, and unsettled living arrangements, destroying numerable lives and homes. The devastating effects are still being felt, and a number of inquiries and investigations continue. Questions have been asked as to how this could happen, how such tragic events can be prevented from happening again, and what comes next for the former residents of Grenfell Tower?

This interdisciplinary event seeks to explore these questions and to create the space for other perspectives. Bringing together academics with interests in housing law, community, social care, and critical race studies, and an audience of academics, activists, practitioners and community organisations, we seek to start a critical socio-legal conversation on the key challenges for social justice post-Grenfell, including;

• Regulations and accountability
• Community voice
• Class, gentrification, and urban inequalities
• Race and housing
• Disability and accessibility
• Precarity, displacement, and home
