Climate crisis, Policing, and Public Safety by TYP-ACE

The Yorkshire Policing-Academic Centre of Excellence (TYP-ACE) flagship event on the climate crisis and its impacts on policing and public safety.

This flagship event on the climate crisis and its impacts on policing and public safety brings together experts from the Universities of Leeds (Priestley Centre for Climate Futures) and York (YESI), and practitioner networks, including representatives from local resilience forums (LRFs) and statutory agencies, to discuss some of the most pressing challenges arising from the increasing frequency, intensity and severity of extreme weather events. There are two underpinning themes:

Panel 1: The implications of climate change for operational policing, including future risks and demand in the context of preparedness, emergency response, resources, and workforce resilience.

Panel 2: The role of partnership working and whole-of-society approaches in building resilience to climate-related risks and emergencies.

Highlights of the event will include:

• Keynote on Climate projections in the UK
• Expert Panel on the Climate crisis impacts on operational policing
• Expert Panel on the role of multiagency partnerships & whole-of-society approaches to climate resilience.

We hope the event will help mobilise collaborative, problem-focused research that can support more effective preparation for the growing public safety challenges posed by the climate crisis.
