Professor Clive Walker writes to the Australian Parliament’s Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs

Professor of Criminal Justice Studies, Clive Walker, writes to the Australian Parliament’s Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs.

The new Australian Government of Tony Abbott has recently proposed the Independent National Security Legislation Monitor Repeal Bill 2014. The Bill would abolish the office of the Monitor who currently maintains security over the extensive anti-terrorism laws in Australia.

In his submission to the Australian Parliament’s Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs, Professor Clive Walker explains the drawbacks of the new Bill’s proposal. He draws upon his extensive experience as Special Advisor to the UK’s equivalent – the Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation.
