What is the point of petitions? Join Professor Cristina Leston-Bandeira at Leeds Central Library to explore how petitions have developed over time.
Petitions have become very popular, but it is not always clear what their purpose is or what they achieve. In this talk, Professor Cristina Leston-Bandeira, Co-Director of the Centre for Democratic Engagement at the University will explore how petitions have developed over time, to identify their different purposes across different systems.
About the speaker
Cristina Leston-Bandeira is Professor of Politics in the School of Politics and International Studies at the University of Leeds. She has 20 years' experience working on parliaments and public engagement, having previously worked at the University of Hull before joining the University of Leeds in 2015. She is Co-Director of the Centre for Democratic Engagement and Chair of the UK Study of Parliament Group. She is also co-editor of the journal and a Constitution Unit Fellow.
