The Role of Parliament - a lecture by the Speaker of the House of Commons
- Date: Friday 3 November 2017, 17:00 – 18:30
- Location: Maurice Keyworth Building, Business School
- Cost: Free
We are very honoured to welcome the Rt Hon John Bercow MP, Speaker of the House of Commons, to the University of Leeds. The Speaker will give a public lecture, followed by Q&A.
At a time when key decisions about our future are being made and the government has no absolute majority, the role of Parliament has become all the more important. A champion for issues often seen as polemical, such as parliamentary modernisation and the rights of backbenchers, the Speaker of the House of Commons is perfectly positioned to reflect on the role of Parliament at such uncertain but crucial times.
There is no charge for this event, but you are required to register in order to be able to attend it.
Mr Speaker will also lead an informal seminar with our second year students taking the module on The UK Parliament, prior to his Public lecture. This visit fits within our Politics and Parliamentary Studies pathway and demonstrates our close collaboration with Parliament, to support our students and teaching experience.
