New Faculty Inaugural Lecture Series announced for the 2024-25 academic year

The series is being launched to celebrate the promotion to or appointment at the rank of Professor of academic colleagues across all four Schools in the Faculty since 2020.

The Faculty of Social Sciences is delighted to announce the launch of a new Faculty Inaugural Lecture Series for the 2024-25 academic year.

The series is intended to recognise and celebrate the achievement of those colleagues who have – since January 2020 – been promoted to or appointed at the rank of Professor within one of the four Schools within the Faculty.

The series will feature eight lectures throughout the academic year, with four taking place in the Autumn Semester and the next four taking place in the 2025 semesters. Each cycle of four lectures will feature one professor per School in the faculty.

The lectures will celebrate and showcase the research careers of the professors while being accessible for a non-specialised audience.

The series opening lecture will be delivered by Professor Joanne Greenhalgh from the School of Sociology and Social Policy on 3 October 2024.

Following Joanne in the Autumn Semester’s cycle of lectures will be Professor Henry Yeomans from the School of Law, Professor Diane Pecorari from the School of Education, and Professor Jan Selby from the School of Politics and International Studies.

After the Christmas break, recommencing in late January, the second cycle of lectures will be delivered by Professor Jose Pina-Sánchez from the School of Law, Professor Adrian Gallagher from the School of Politics and International Studies, Professor Mark Davis from the School of Sociology and Social Policy, and Professor Louise Tracey from the School of Education.

These lectures are a celebration and showcase of some of the brilliant academic colleagues we have in the faculty, and we look forward to welcoming colleagues, postgraduate researchers, students, alumni, and visitors to the University during this series.
