Join us at our Teacher Training Fair to discover more about a career in teaching and meet University and School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) providers from across the country.
This teacher training fair, run in collaboration with Red Kite Teacher Training and Teach First, gives you the opportunity to meet with University and SCITT providers and discuss different routes into teaching.
Teacher training providers at this year's fair include:
- Red Kite Teacher Training – (if you train to teach with us at the University of Leeds, you will do so through our SCITT partner, Red Kite Teacher Training).
- Teach First
- University of Cambridge
- Durham SCITT
- University of Sheffield
- University of Sunderland
- Liverpool John Moores University
Throughout the day you'll also have the opportunity to attend a talk delivered by Helen Williams, Headteacher at Ilkley Grammar School, and three different workshops, detailed in the itinerary below.
Itinerary
11:30 Workshop: Routes into teaching
This workshop will explain the different postgraduate routes into teaching including: HEI, School Direct, SCITT and Teach First. It will explore entry requirements, how to apply, course timings, how the courses are assessed and the qualifications they lead to.
12:00 Workshop: Teacher Training applications and school experience
This workshop will explain the applications process for different teacher training routes and will provide advice about what you should include in your personal statement, if required by the training route. It will explore the value of gaining school experience, how to arrange it and what to look for during your experience.
12:30 Talk: Helen Williams, Headteacher at Ilkley Grammar School
13:00 Workshop: Exploring teaching for Black and Minority Ethnic applicants
An opportunity to join a small group workshop to find out about the experience of black and ethnic minority trainees or teachers who are currently training or who have recently trained. Find out more about the opportunities that are available to you to help you to decide whether teacher training is for you. Topics included are the benefits of school experience and mentoring by Black and Minority Ethnic teachers.
