CLER seminars with Dr Martin East

The presentation focuses on teachers of a range of languages in schools, and highlights the benefits and challenges of implementing TBLT as innovation in time-limited instructional contexts.

Dr Martin East from the University of Auckland will present findings from a two-stage research project that investigated a group of New Zealand language teachers at two junctures. During 2012, Martin collected evidence of teachers’ developing beliefs about TBLT as they undertook a one-year initial teacher education (ITE) programme with a dedicated focus on TBLT (n = 20).  To investigate the extent to which these same teachers were still implementing the innovation when working in schools, at the end of 2015 a sub-set (n = 7) was revisited. The presentation draws on the findings to raise issues for enhancing language teacher education, whatever the context, and whatever the language.
