Creativity and creative thinking tend to be associated with particular disciplines (the Creative Arts) or professions (the Creative Industries). The role of creativity in STEM is often overlooked but has an important part to play to engage students and encourage them to pursue STEM subjects. In this interactive seminar, Simon Rees (author of Creative Chemists: Strategies for Teaching and Learning and Creative Thinking in University Physics Education) will explore how creative thought and action is central to scientific endeavour and how to promote and support teaching for and with creativity in STEM. Making this explicit will hopefully mean we will begin to hear reference to not only the ‘Creative Arts’ but also the ‘Creative Sciences’ in the future.
