PhD student to complete prestigious internship with Senedd

Emma Brewis, a PhD student in the School of Politics and International Studies, has secured a place on the prestigious UKRI Policy Internships scheme.
Beginning in September 2025 and lasting for three months, Emma will be working on the Legislation, Justice and Constitution Committee as part of the research team at the Welsh Parliament, producing briefings for ministers, answering research enquiries from elected members, and writing articles for their website.
I'm so excited to be undertaking the UKRI internship and grateful for the opportunity I will have to engage with parliamentary staff. This placement will be so valuable to my PhD research, helping me to understand how research can be used to support the work of parliament.
The Senedd Research team is the research arm of the Welsh Parliament, providing impartial, independent and expert analysis to support all elected representatives, thereby allowing them to appropriately scrutinise policy and legislation. Senedd Research consists of four research teams focussing on specific areas of policy, including the economy, communities and local government; education and lifelong learning; environment and transport; and health and social policy. They sit alongside other teams providing statistical information, data visualisation support, and a knowledge exchange unit working to connect the Senedd with the wider research community in Wales and beyond.
Emma Brewis is completing a PhD on video games and political engagement in the School of Politics and International Studies.
