New public showcase to explore how language research solves regional and global challenges
Faculty researchers join other researchers and professionals at public research showcase hosted by Language@Leeds.
Language@Leeds will host its first ever public showcase in spring 2025, bringing together University of Leeds academics and professionals from across the private and public sector to explore how innovative language research can inform and inspire solutions to pressing societal issues.
The free showcase, titled ‘Language Research to Address Regional and Global Challenges’, will take place at Nexus, University of Leeds, on Monday 1 April from 4-6.30pm. It will offer insights into cutting-edge research from academics across disciplines, addressing critical issues such as inclusivity, accessibility, and reducing inequities through education.
Attendees will hear from a broad range of University of Leeds researchers, including:
- Professor Ruth Swanwick and Professor Maggie Kubanyiova from the School of Education, Professor Serge Sharoff, Dr Carlo Eugeni, and Professor Stephen Coleman on creating accessible language and inclusive societies in the modern world.
- Dr Paula Clarke from the School of Education, Professor Cécile De Cat, Professor Catherine Davies, Dr Hannah Nash, and Professor Amanda Waterman on reducing inequities through education in West Yorkshire.
The event also features a panel discussion chaired by Professor Catherine Davies, Professor of Language Development and Dean for Research Culture, on fostering cross-sector collaboration to tackle these challenges.
A poster session and networking wine reception will follow, providing opportunities to connect with researchers and explore potential partnerships.
All researchers working on language-related projects at the University of Leeds are invited to submit a poster (see call for posters) by 3 March.
