Leeds Professor creates A-Z video guide to International Politics
Adrian Gallagher, Professor in Global Security and Mass Atrocity Prevention in POLIS, has launched a series of videos to disseminate key concepts of International Politics to a general audience.
Launched in October 2024, the A-Z series provides an introduction to important terms such as Anarchy, Balance of Power, and Cooperation. The two-minute videos, available on Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube, have been viewed thousands of times.
‘One of the surprising aspects has been the genuine appetite for such a series,’ said Professor Gallagher. Viewers have found the videos ‘useful, insightful and interesting’, and have praised them ‘for making politics more accessible and digestible.’ ‘Everyday people use Instagram, TikTok and YouTube,’ remarked Professor Gallagher, ‘so why not present our research there?’
In a world increasingly full of misinformation, division and hatred, academics have a responsibility to provide accurate information.
Alongside the videos, Professor Gallagher is currently working on a monograph, Saving States to Save Strangers: Mass Atrocity Prevention in the Central African Republic, and hopes to disseminate his public engagement findings in the A-Z Guide in 2025 and beyond.
The videos are available across a range of platforms, including:
Instagram (Pro_Politics)
TikTok (Professor_Politics)
LinkedIn (Adrian Gallagher)
YouTube (@ProfessorGallagher)
Professor Gallagher’s A-Z is an example of just one of the ways researchers from the School of Politics and International Studies are engaging with the public to share their knowledge and ideas.
