The University at Leeds Pride 2024

Faculty of Social Sciences Executive Dean Professor Paul Johnson was among the University colleagues who marched in this year’s parade.

Leeds Pride 2024 took place on 20 July and saw an estimated 50,000 people flock to the city centre to join in the day-long celebrations.

Spearheading the University’s delegation in the annual parade was its LGBT+ Staff Network. The Network provides a safe and welcoming space for LGBT+ staff and Postgraduate Researchers, advocating for members’ concerns and interests.

Among those colleagues at Pride was University Executive Group LGBT+ Champion and Executive Dean for the Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Paul Johnson.

Professor Johnson is pictured above alongside other members of the UEG (from left to right): Chief Operating Officer Rachel Brearley, Deputy and Interim Vice-Chancellor Hai-Sui Yu, Executive Dean for the Leeds University Business School Julia Bennell and Chief Financial Officer Jane Madeley.

About the city’s celebrations, Professor Johnson said,

Pride is a celebration and a protest: a protest against discrimination, and a celebration of equality. As the University’s LGBT+ Champion, I couldn’t have been prouder to march in the parade with colleagues from UEG and the LGBT+ Staff Network.

Together, we made visible the University’s total commitment to upholding the dignity and equality of all LGBT+ staff and students.
