School of Law’s Professor Surya Subedi is commended by the Prime Minister of Nepal
Professor Subedi’s biography was launched at a ceremony held on Saturday 16th March 2024 at the Prime Minister of Nepal’s residence in Baluwatar in Kathmandu.
The biography, titled From Higher Doctorate to Nobel Peace Prize Nominee, was authored by Bhagirath Yogi and Nabin Pokharel.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ commended Professor Subedi’s achievements as a significant member of the Nepali diaspora.
He said:
I sought Professor Surya Subedi’s assistance while drafting the Constitution of Nepal and reviewing past treaty agreements with India. He played a crucial role in those endeavours. Even in the recent Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) agreement, his input provided a middle-path which we embraced.
The event was covered by the main national English-language daily in Nepal, The Rising Nepal, in this article. The article describes Professor Subedi’s contribution to Nepal’s nation-building efforts as a ‘beacon of hope’ throughout the complex geopolitical challenges of the country. This was reflected in the Prime Minister’s message.
Professor Subedi says:
I was honoured by the remarks made by the Prime Minister of Nepal about the impact of my work on international legal matters. Having contributed to the writing of a new democratic constitution of Nepal and assisting the country on many other international legal matters, I was delighted that the Prime Minister of Nepal publicly acknowledged my contribution to the country.
Professor Subedi is a member of Centre for Business Law and Practice.
