The recruitment, induction and retention of Special Educational Needs Coordinators

The career trajectories of Special Educational Needs Coordinators (SENCos) are under researched. This commissioned research was undertaken to explore this area. The aims were to contribute the national debate about SENCos, to inform the work of NASEN and to identify areas for further research.

Building on some earlier small scale pieces of research, a questionnaire was designed and sent to 500 SENCo working in England. The findings have been published in different formats to meet the needs of particular audiences. A version has appeared in Special, a magazine produced by NASEN. There has also been coverage in the TES and SENCo Update. A fuller discussion of the data with appear in the Journal of Research in Special Educational Needs 8 (2) 96 - 110.
