The immediate outcome of COP29 was a financial deal of $300 billion annually to developing countries by 2035, falling short of the $1.3 trillion many were expecting. With this lower level of funding leading to frustration and anger from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and small island states, and stopping any movement to ‘ratchet up national emissions targets’, Professor Beardsworth discusses what the latest COP tells us about the present and future state of global climate leadership.
