Research interests
My current research examines food waste as a distinct legal and policy problem. As part of this work, I was an ESRC Parliamentary Academic Fellow, working with the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) to support scrutiny of government interventions to manage food waste. As part of this work, I was commissioned to write a state of the art report, known as a ‘POSTbrief’, on Food Waste. By demonstrating the limited evidence base for non-legislative interventions, the POSTbrief provides an underpinning case for new legislation to prevent food waste, while highlighting the risks of certain legislative proposals such as a ‘Good Samartian’ law for donated food. I have provided oral and written evidence to Parliament, and advised governments, businesses and third sector organisations on food waste law and policy.
I have a general research background in environmental law, including waste, regulatory enforcement, climate change (especially mitigation) and environmental liability. I also retain research interests in tort, particularly the relationship between tortious liability and corporate responsibility.
