Profile

I am a lecturer in Sociology & Social Policy. Originally from China, I have been living and working in the UK, the Netherlands, the US, and Germany since 2007. I received my PhD in sociology with magna cum laude from Bielefeld University in 2012. Besides academic positions, I have been serving as a consultant to the UN, World Bank, and OECD, as well as various government offices in China, UK and the Netherlands.

Research interests

My research interests focus on the interrelated issues of urbanization in the global south including rural-urban migration, land, housing, social welfare, and inequality. My research approaches are interdisciplinary, combining sociology, public policy, geography, urban studies, and development studies. While my primary research area is China, I have worked on research projects in Kenya, India, and Colombia.
