Profile
I am an Associate Professor of Sociology and Social Policy. Originally from China, I have been living and working in the UK, the Netherlands, the US, and Germany since 2007. I received my PhD in sociology with magna cum laude from Bielefeld University in 2012. Besides academic positions, I have been serving as a consultant to the United Nations, World Bank, and OECD.
Research interests
My research interests focus on the interrelated issues of inclusive and sustainable urbanisation in the Global South including migration, social welfare, land, housing, and digital society. My research approaches are interdisciplinary, combining sociology, policy studies, geography, and urban studies. While my primary research area is China, I have worked on research projects in Kenya, India, and Colombia. My research outputs contribute to the body of knowledge on the following four themes 1) internal migration (e.g. my monograph and article in Population, Space and Place), 2) social welfare and policies (e.g., my articles in Social Policy & Administration and Journal of Aging & Social Policy), 3) urban housing and marginalised residents (e.g., my articles in Cities and Land Use Policy), 4) digital society and digital divide(e.g., my articles in Work, Employment, and Society and Health Sociology Review).
