Dr Katie Hodgkinson

Profile

My work focuses on interdisciplinary and youth-led approaches to education, post-conflict society, and global development. My research focuses primarily on two inter-related areas; the role of youth engagement in formal and non-formal education for social justice and peacebuilding in conflict-affected contexts, and the role of youth in global development more generally, including how to make development processes accountable to young people. I am a qualitaitve researcher, and my projects often engage participatory methodologies. The majority of my research is embedded within collaberative partnerships with development organisations and NGOs, including most recently with the British Council and Hope and Homes for Children.

I teach in the fields of Global Development and Education and Global Development, particularly Education in Emergencies.

Prior to joining the University of Leeds, I worked in the Department of Governance and Inclusive Development at the University of Amsterdam on both large and small-scale research and development projects. This included “Her Choice”, a Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) alliance that worked with partners in 10 countries, and a project commissioned by SOS Children’s Villages into the social exclusion of youth in care.
