Student Futures Board

Helping Sociology and Social Policy students build their future careers

The School of Sociology and Social Policy Student Futures Board brings together alumni, employers, students, academic colleagues and careers professionals to help students in the school develop the skills, confidence and connections they need to succeed after graduation.

Drawing on expertise from across industry, the public sector and the third sector, the Board provides advice, insight and opportunities that help students prepare for a wide range of career pathways. Through collaboration with employers and alumni, the Board helps ensure our students are equipped with the knowledge, skills and experience needed in a changing labour market.

Supporting student success

The Board plays an important advisory role in helping the school understand the skills and experiences that employers value most. By bringing together different perspectives, it helps ensure our students are well prepared for employment, further study and meaningful careers that contribute positively to society.

Through its activities and partnerships, the Board helps students develop professional networks, gain real-world insight and recognise the valuable skills they develop during their studies.

Working together

The Student Futures Board meets twice each year, with additional engagement taking place through careers events, workshops and student-facing activities. Its work is supported by the School of Sociology and Social Policy and the University of Leeds Careers Service.

Together, Board members are helping to shape opportunities that enable Sociology and Social Policy students to thrive in their future careers.
