Profile
I am the Student Support Officer for POLIS: in my role I communicate with students to ensure that they have access to the support that they need throughout their studies. I am available to talk to students who are struggling or are unsure of where to find support. Where needed, I can offer guidance on mitigating circumstances and other University processes, and on the various forms of professional help available to students (e.g. Counselling & Wellbeing, Disability Services, external resources).
My responsibilities include:
Student Support:
- Meet with students to assess their circumstances, provide support and guidance on academic policy issues, and refer on to specialist support services as appropriate;
- Promote student representation, Leeds for Life, the Partnership and other university initiatives;
- Recruitment of student reps and liaison with relevant student societies;
- Generate content for websites, email and newsletters;
- Support induction activities and social events for students;
- Lead development and continuous improvement of policies and procedures for student support in line with University expectations and regulations
Mitigating Circumstances:
- Oversee and administer coursework mitigating circumstances requests and maintenance of records;
- Provide support for Special Circumstances Committee;
- Provide support for Study Success Meetings
Attendance Monitoring:
- Follow up and investigate cases of poor attendance, provide support, signpost, and refer to personal tutors/DSE as appropriate
- Provide support for Fitness to Study procedures
Administrative lead and coordinator for:
- The personal tutor system
- Peer mentoring
Committees:
- Student Staff Partnership Forum;
- School Special Circumstances Committee
Faculty and University Teams and Networks:
- Participate in and contribute to meetings of the Student Support Team for the Faculty, and other relevant university networks
Qualifications
- BA Music & Philosophy
- Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills
- Level 2 Award in Counselling Concepts
