Politics student running in local elections

First year Politics student, Edward Hardy is hoping to secure the Hyde Park and Headingley Leeds City Council seat in the local elections.

The 18 year old is one of the youngest local candidates in the country. He has previously served in the UK Youth Parliament and has worked with London Mayor Boris Johnson.

The elections take place on 22 May and Edward will be competing against Labour’s sitting candidate Javaid Akhtar; Lib Dem contender Richard Andrews; Tanis Belsham-Wray from the Trade Unionists and Socialists Against Cuts; Christopher Foren from the Greens and George Morley from UKIP.

Edward believes “it is very important to encourage young people to engage with politics and to make their views known.”
