Dr Honeyman discusses the rise of young political leaders

After the declaration of Alan Johnson that he is too old to take leadership of the Labour Party, Dr Victoria Honeymen, Lecturer in British Politics, discusses the rise of young leaders in parliament.

In an article entitled, ‘Politics is a game best played by the young and the restless’, Dr Honeyman addresses the fact that Prime ministers ‘appear to be getting younger and younger’ and discusess whether these young politicians are as capable as their elder, more experienced counterparts.

She goes on to analyse the successes of various ‘young’ Prime ministers and highlights the particularly ‘modern’ qualities that are now required for the top job, such as media presence.
