Politics outreach programme and admissions policy to support year 12 students open for applications
The outreach programme will support year 12 home students to secure their place on a BA course at POLIS.
Leeds Futures – Politics for 2024 has now been launched and is open for applications. The programme is designed to inspire year 12 or first-year college students in the UK, who are interested in studying Politics, International Development and/or International Relations at university and support them to gain a place at the University of Leeds.
The programme has been running for three years and during this time academics from the School of Politics and International Studies (POLIS) have delivered taster sessions both online and on campus. For the 2024 programme, there will be academic sessions online and two in-person campus visits with additional skills sessions and support for writing the assessment.
New Admissions Policy
The programme now has a new admissions policy that means that participants will be offered places for lower grades like the longstanding contextual admissions programme Access to Leeds.
The new admissions policy will run initially as a pilot in 2024 and 2025 and the programme cohort will start in March 2024 for current year 12 pupils and finish in December 2024, when those same pupils are in year 13.
After taking part in the programme, eligible students will receive a guaranteed contextual offer from the University of Leeds if they apply for the BA Politics, BA International Development or BA International Relations courses in POLIS. Applications are now open with the application deadline being Sunday 4th February 2024.
Full details of the programme, including eligibility criteria and breakdown of what sessions and campus visits are included, are available on the Social Sciences Outreach website.
